2024-02-26

The Rogue has been the best-selling model in the entire Nissan lineup for many years. In fact, there are numerous markets where this Japanese SUV dominates sales. Even though this isn't the case in Canada, the Rogue remains a very popular and compelling model. Nissan's strategy relies on a simple lineup and choice of engines. It's a model that doesn't have much to reproach itself for and has everything to appeal to buyers.

For 2024, the Rogue presents a new face with a more modern and serious look than ever before, which should help it stand out from its rivals. Designers have done an excellent job at this level, as it almost looks like a new generation for the model. In short, all this to say that the Rogue is among the most attractive SUVs currently available in the market, and I'm not mincing my words. While it may not offer off-road or electrified versions, its lineup deserves credit for being simple, which sometimes avoids headaches when it comes to choosing a model.

Lineup and Pricing

The 2024 Nissan Rogue lineup consists of five models starting with the S version, priced at $36,424. For this amount, you get a 3-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel drive, which is already quite good. Equipment level increases with the SV version at $40,174, which notably offers a sunroof. The SV Privilege version adds luxury and technology for $42,324. Then, there's the SL version at $45,474. Finally, the Platinum version tops the range at $47,774.

Category and Competition

The Rogue is an excellent product on its own, but I won't hide from you that it faces very tough rivals. In fact, it's in the compact SUV category where the competition is fiercest in today's automotive industry. The Japanese manufacturer's SUV remains very appealing, but it lacks variety compared to its rivals. However, if you want a gasoline vehicle, you'll get your money's worth.

Rivals: Chevrolet Equinox, Dodge Hornet, Ford Bronco Sport, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Mazda CX-50, Mitsubishi Outlander, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan

Design and Technologies

The current generation of the Nissan Rogue boasts attractive proportions and an interesting overall design, but it lacked a little something, and that's where designers worked their magic in 2024. The Japanese manufacturer's SUV has taken on a more refined and evolved look. It almost resembles a luxury model or one that comes from the future. Its new, more aggressive front face gives it character and sets it apart from the competition.

There aren't major changes to the interior, but that's not an issue since it's already very modern. Moreover, the higher you go in the lineup, the more appealing the level of finishing becomes, with rather nice color schemes. The only thing I could criticize is the position of some buttons just in front of the screen, which are a bit less accessible than the rest.

In terms of technology, Nissan is synonymous with simplicity. The Rogue's multimedia system offers quick and smooth navigation, and it's fairly easy to navigate through the different menus. As for the driving assistance technologies, they are very effective without being too cumbersome.

Performance

The Nissan Rogue now offers only one engine option since the 2.5-liter engine has been eliminated from the equation. The Japanese manufacturer's SUV now comes with a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. This engine produces 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. It's paired with a CVT gearbox, and all-wheel drive is offered as standard. Nissan claims an average fuel consumption of 8.4 L/100 km in the city and 6.7 L/100 km on the highway for this engine, which is definitely within the good average, especially for a vehicle of this size.

Weak Points

The 3-cylinder engine runs out of breath quickly, especially when demanding heavy acceleration. The dashboard is a bit monotonous in the base trim levels.

Strengths

It's a vehicle that offers comprehensive standard equipment and a highly competitive price range. The Rogue is versatile, enjoyable to drive, and very spacious. The average fuel consumption of its 3-cylinder engine is very impressive.

Signature Element

The Nissan Rogue is a safe bet. It's a model chosen for its simplicity.

Closing Words

Once again, Nissan has done an excellent job with the Rogue for 2024. I wouldn't be surprised if it gains a few positions in the category sales rankings this year.
